return to Saiyan Bios

written by ME

Born in 732 AD on the planet Vegeta, he came to us on Earth at approximately 30 years old.   He has traveled here with Nappa in search of the Dragon Balls.  What does he want with them?  Immortality, of course!  Vegeta was frightening to me right away because of his extreme arrogance.  He was so sure of himself that I became sure of him as well.  He had absolutely no regard for life at all, well, none except his own.

Vegeta gave the Z fighters a run for their money.  Most of them ended up dead.  Eventually Kakarott, Gohan, and Krillen defeated Vegeta... they had to gang up on him though, they couldn't take him one on one.  In Vegeta's weakest hour Krillen was going to finish the deed and kill him, Kakarott said No!  Vegeta went away in a space pod as a broken Saiyan.  He returns to us later on Namek.  He isn’t really fighting for us, but he is fighting with us.  At one point Freiza kills Vegeta and that’s when my heart melted.

The scene between Kakarott and Vegeta still makes me cry.  Vegeta went into the story of how he was raised to destroy, and he has never known anything other than that.  He talks about how his home was destroyed and Freiza raised him after that.  Vegeta was evil because he only knew evil.  Watching Vegeta die after such a story changed my DBZ life forever.  I was smitten.  I was torn.  The first time Vegeta almost died I wanted Krillen to kill him, now, I was hungry for more of him and he was gone.  I desperately hit the Internet!  At that time there weren’t many sites so I had very few places to learn from, but then alas I saw something wonderful – he comes back!  And back he did indeed come.

The Dragon Balls were used to wish back everyone killed by Freiza.  Vegeta arrived on Earth and was pretty much a loner.  He sat by a tree and sealed the deal for me.  His pondering expression did me in.  Later Bulma made some comment to him about being kinda cute - he called her a bonehead.  Vegeta trained constantly to become the legendary Super Saiyan and to be stronger than Kakarott.  This desire to be stronger than “a third class Saiyan” has been the driving motivator for Vegeta.  He has even stopped others from killing Kakarott just so that he can do it himself. Vegeta reached Super Saiyan and we all cheered with him!

Eventually Vegeta and Bulma get together (I think we were ripped off by not being able to watch this proud man give into desire and love) and they had a baby and named him Trunks.  Vegeta isn’t a very good father and has other things to worry about besides his family.  UNTIL he meets Future Trunks and goes through a lot with him.  But parenthood isn’t for Vegeta and even after he begins to spend time with Baby Trunks, he isn’t exactly an affectionate parent.  But he loves Chibi Trunks the best way that he can, and I don’t believe the boy was lacking at all.  Vegeta trained with him, and taught him about being a true warrior. Vegeta was on the side of Earth and we were glad to have him.

His arrogance is both his downfall and his strength.  He is a persistent warrior and always strives for more.  He never loses his sarcasm throughout the whole show.  Some of the very funniest lines come from the Prince of all Saiyans.  Even when he doesn’t mean to be amusing, he is.  He is brave and tough, and strong, and gorgeous.

When we deal with the Buu saga it gets sad again.  Vegeta lets himself be taken over by Babidi so that he will be stronger.  He goes after Kakarott again and even destroys a stadium full of innocent people.  He wants his revenge!  He has this wonderful speech about why he needs this revenge.  As sad as it was to see him go evil again it was also somehow wonderful.  The pain that rages within him was prominent and made your heart bleed for him.  Vegeta and Kakarott have the “long awaited fight”.

This rage gives power to Majin Buu and before long he is hatched.  Nobody can defeat Majin Buu.  Vegeta eventually knocks out Kakarott and goes after Buu.  Knowing that Majin Buu can not be defeated, Vegeta sacrifices himself.   In “Final Atonement” Vegeta calls to Trunks and finally gives him a hug and explains that he has always been proud of Trunks.  After he knocks Trunks and Goten un-conscience (to prevent them from interfering) he powers up until he has too much energy for his body to handle.  Vegeta explodes into this huge ball of energy.  I cried for days.  I even made a video of this Majin experience because it moved me so much.  Vegeta is gone and then Buu comes back – total injustice!  Vegeta is able to come back to Earth (with a halo and Baba’s help) to assist Kakarott in defeating Buu.  They go through many things  to try and do it.  Eventually Buu destroys Earth.  Once the Earth is restored Vegeta is granted life again, because ultimately he did a “good guy thing” when he sacrificed himself.

After a while he and Bulma have another child, a little girl named Bra.  Before the end of Dragon Ball GT Vegeta reaches SS4.  (This level to me is the most visually appealing outside of normal form.)  His heart is something that I cannot explain in words, you just have to watch him and know him, and then you will love him.

Vegeta is an amazing character from beginning to end and I know my humble little biography has not caught the essence of the man.  I couldn’t begin to properly do him justice.
