Goten is half human and half Saiyan.  He is the youngest son of Goku and Chi Chi.  He is already 5 in the American version when we get our first glimpse of this adorable little boy.  He is the mirror image of his daddy.  Not only in looks but in personality as well. When Goku first sees his youngest son, he asked Chi Chi “is that a little me hiding behind you?”.  ( I thought that was so cute) Goten should be very proud as he is the youngest warrior to go Super Saiyan.  Now, his best friend Trunks did go super before him, however, Trunks is one year older than Goten which makes Goten the youngest.  You know Vegeta hates that!!! He probably also hates that fact that his son is best friends with the son of the man that he can never seem 
to outdo.  

The first time Goten went super Saiyan was when he and Chi Chi were sparring.  She called him a “little monster” and told him never to do that again.   He didn’t  except when he and trunks were playing and nobody else was around.   Finally, one day, he was training with Gohan for the world tournament and saw Gohan go Super Saiyan.  He asked Gohan if it would be alright for him to fight like that.  Gohan told him that it took many years and lots of training before he would ever be able to go super.  Goten laughed and went Super Saiyan like he had been doing it for years. 

Actually, Goten went Super Saiyan before he learned how to fly.  Gohan, called him a super pedestrian instead of a Super Saiyan ( I love that scene). Gohan taught Goten and Videl how to fly together.  Goten was a little jealous  when Videl started training with them but now he really likes her.  Both Goten and Trunks were upset that they could not compete in the adult competition so they pretended to be “mighty mask” so that they could compete (Mighty mask was Trunks on Goten’s shoulders beneath a costume so no one could see them).  They did rather well until their fight with number 18.  During the fight she realized who they were and “unmasked” them.  They were disqualified.  Goten wound up winning second place in the junior division, losing only to Trunks.  This was OK with him because Trunks promised Goten, his choice of any toy that Trunks had. 

I think Goten would rather play all day instead of training anyway.  He and Trucks left the tournament to go and fight the “Buu monster”.  Fighting Buu eventually let to the creation of Gotenks which is Goten and Trunks fused together, but that is whole other biography .
